Ceramic Tint vs Standard Tint: What's the Real Difference?

Two cars can have the same visible tint darkness — say, 20% VLT on the front windows — and perform completely differently depending on whether the film is dyed or ceramic. The VLT percentage only tells you how dark the glass looks, not how well it actually blocks heat or holds up over time.

What Standard Dyed Tint Is

Dyed window film works by adding a layer of dye between the film’s protective layers that absorbs some incoming light. It’s the most affordable tint option and it does darken glass effectively, but it has real limitations:

  • Blocks visible light but is relatively weak at blocking infrared heat
